Ramstein Air Base, Germany — Students from Ramstein Middle School (RMS) played an important role in helping Water Play Day run smoothly for prekindergarten (PK) students at Ramstein Elementary School (RES).

Members of the RMS National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), representing grades six through eight, volunteered nearly two hours of their time to assist six PK classrooms. The event was carefully organized by Mrs. Danielle Sumpter (RMS) and Ms. Nereyda Caceres (RES), who collaborated to ensure each classroom had an equal number of middle school volunteers.

Throughout the event, RMS students worked alongside PK students, helping guide activities while also joining in the fun. Despite cooler-than-expected weather that nearly disrupted the day, students from both schools remained positive and adaptable.

Activities included water relays, bubbles, beach balls, and sprinklers. While temperatures were not ideal for water play, the students’ enthusiasm made the experience enjoyable. Laughter and excitement could be seen across all groups as the older students supported and encouraged the younger children.

The event not only provided entertainment for PK students but also gave middle school volunteers an opportunity to demonstrate leadership, responsibility, and teamwork. Their willingness to engage with the younger students helped create a welcoming and supportive environment.

Although the day was considered a success, some classrooms were unable to fully participate due to the weather conditions. As a result, several NJHS students chose to return the following week to volunteer in those classrooms and ensure all students had a similar experience.

The collaboration between RMS and RES highlights the positive impact of student leadership and cross-school partnerships, showing how even small efforts can make a meaningful difference in the school community.
