RAMSTEIN, Germany — Ramstein Elementary School recently celebrated Read Across America Week with a variety of activities designed to highlight the joy and importance of reading. This year’s theme, “Reading Gives You Superpowers,” encouraged students to explore how books inspire imagination, learning and creativity.

The week began with a schoolwide kickoff assembly featuring performances by students and staff. Second grade students performed a song, while Student Council members and a second-grade poetry group shared lively readings. Students also participated in interactive reading trivia that energized the audience and set the tone for the week.

Throughout the week, guest readers from the school and local community visited classrooms to read with students. Special guests included Dr. Wanda Bradley, Europe Central Community superintendent; Jessica Comfort, school liaison officer; and more than 25 Ramstein Elementary staff members. Students also participated in themed dress-up days, a Masked Poet activity and a Story and Snack read-aloud featuring local author E.J. Elliot Buford.

A highlight of the celebration was Dr. D.’s Literacy Night, which welcomed more than 500 visitors to the school. Families participated in read-alouds, literacy games led by teachers and JROTC cadets, and Reader’s Theater performances featuring 30 students across five shows.

The week’s events brought the Ramstein community together to celebrate literacy and reinforce the message that reading empowers students to grow as learners and thinkers.
