RES Families

 DoWEA Parents and Families,

We are pleased to announce the kickoff of the DoWEA Presidential Fitness Test (PFT), reinforcing our commitment to student health, wellness, and lifelong fitness.

On May 5, 2026, the national launch of the PFT was formally announced during an event hosted by President Trump at the White House, with participation from DoWEA students. DoWEA schools are excited to begin implementation of the PFT over the next few weeks prior to the end of the school year in PE classes. This may include administering select components of the test over multiple days or full administration on one day, depending upon student readiness, time, and equipment availability.

The Department of War Education Activity is proud to champion this initiative. Secretary Hegseth's directive to reinstate the Presidential Fitness Test in DoWEA schools speaks to a shared commitment to student health, physical achievement, and personal growth - values that DoWEA wholeheartedly embraces. We are confident this program will be an inspiring and rewarding experience for our military-connected students and communities alike, and we look forward to watching them rise to the challenge.

As part of the PFT, students may participate in age-appropriate fitness activities such as:

·                     One-mile run or 20-meter beep test

·                     Pull-ups or push-ups

·                     Curl-ups or plank

These activities help students understand their current fitness levels, set goals, and track progress over time, emphasizing effort, improvement, and healthy habits.

We encourage families to talk with their students about the program and reinforce that participation is a celebration of effort and achievement. Every student should feel proud of their progress.

We appreciate your partnership in supporting student fitness and fostering a culture of health, resilience, and readiness across DoWEA.
