The Koala
Dear Families,
In September, the focus is on National Lice Prevention month, a time to address the prevalent issue of lice infestations among children. Lice can be contracted in various settings, including buses, schools, and after-school activities. Transmission of lice can occur through the sharing of personal items such as hats, head-to-head contact, or sitting on cloth-covered furniture that has been recently used by an individual with lice. Furthermore, lice can survive off the human body for 1-2 days. It is advisable to refer to informational materials to stay informed about the signs to look out for and the available treatment options for lice.
Also, this month, we will be conducting health screenings for students in kindergarten through 2nd grade from September 24th to 27th. These screenings are part of the DoDEA health curriculum and standards and include checks for near/distance vision, hearing, and height/weight. If your child wears glasses, please ensure they are wearing them during the week of the screenings.
As the temperatures begin to change, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. Layered clothing is a great way to keep students comfortable throughout the day. Additionally, we encourage promoting overall health and wellness by reminding your children to stay hydrated, eat nutritious meals, and get plenty of rest.
Thank you for your support in keeping our students healthy and ready to learn!
